Abigail Yenawine Scholarship Fundraiser Diner

Get a fabulous dinner at the American Legion in support of the Abigail Yenawine Scholarship Fund. Bobbi Vanderstaay will be serving her world famous chicken fried steak along with mashed potatoes, green beans and more! A vegetarian option will be available too.

Abigail Yenawine is a 2023 Julian High School graduate who tragically lost her father in a car accident and her mother to cancer. Last year, in the midst of her loss, the Julian community rallied around Abigail to help her reach her goal of going to UC Merced. Abigail's first year of college was an amazing experience for her where she made new friends, enjoyed classes and joined the Sigma Theta Psi sorority.

Abigail will be entering her second year of college and still needs financial help with dental, medical and educational expenses. Please consider joining Backcountry Communities Thriving and the Sons of the American Legion in support of this bright young woman.

Tickets can be purchased online or through our Venmo Charity profile (@backcountrythriving). QR codes for both are to the right. Your ticket will be available for you at the door.

2025-2029 Consolidated Plan Process

Each year, the County’s Housing and Community Development Services (HCDS) receives approximately $14 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This funding is intended to provide increased affordable housing opportunities, support access to public services and expand community infrastructure to create thriving communities. The County would like your input on how the funds should be spent during the next 5 years. Complete their questionnaire to give your input about funding for Julian.

Modest Needs is offering Self-Sufficiency Grants to qualified individuals / households who need help to afford two specific types of expenses:

Examples of expenses of this type with which Modest Needs has helped in the past include everything from the cost of medical care not covered by insurance to the cost of repairing or replacing a major appliance to the cost of required work tools or uniforms to the cost of legal fees to complete an adoption to - tragically - the cost of burying a family member that has unexpectedly passed away; and

For example, if you were required to take unpaid leave from work because your child was ill and now cannot afford the cost of your auto insurance, or if you were in an auto accident and cannot afford this month's rent or mortgage payment because you had to pay a deductible to repair your car - under these kinds of documentable emergency situations, Modest Needs would consider paying a regular monthly bill on behalf of your household on a one-time basis.

Visit Modest Needs to see a full list of guidelines and to apply.
