Executive Director
Britni grew up in Julian, and this community has always held a special place in her heart. Being able to now serve and give back in this way is truly meaningful to her. She cares deeply about the people here and is committed to ensuring the resource center, food pantry, and thrift store remain places our community can rely on for support, connection, and opportunity.
With a heart for service and a strong belief in community connection, Britni leads with compassion, integrity, and dedication. Her leadership experience across multiple roles allows her to advocate confidently for rural communities while staying grounded in the everyday needs of the people she serves. She is passionate about strengthening programs and helping build a future where the backcountry continues to thrive.

Co-Founder / Chief Financial Officer
Kim brings integrity, transparency, and strategic insight to the organization’s financial operations. With a strong background in nonprofit finance and administration, Kim ensures resources are managed responsibly to support long-term impact. Her commitment to accountability and sustainability helps drive the mission forward and strengthens trust within the community.

HILARY WARD
Co-Founder
Hilary led Backcountry Communities Thriving with vision, compassion, and a deep commitment to community empowerment. With years of experience in nonprofit leadership and program development, Hilary was dedicated to creating lasting change through collaboration, advocacy, and equity-driven work. Her leadership inspired action and fosters strong connections that help communities thrive.
As of February 25, 2026, Hilary retired from the organization and is looking forward to enjoying a new chapter of relaxation, travel and fun.
